Frane Selak, a Croatian man, is widely regarded as the world's luckiest person. You're probably wondering what kind of event can define someone as the world's luckiest person. Let us now introduce you to Frane Selak's life story. To begin with, his first unfortunate life event occurred in 1962, when he was involved in a train accident. At that time, he was on his way by train from Sarajevo to Dubrovnik. On the way to Dubrovnik, the train he was riding on derailed and plunged into a cold river right beneath the railroad tracks.
17 people drowned as a result of the accident. Selak, on the other hand, survived with only trauma, hypothermia attacks, and several bruises on his hand. What makes this story more interesting, Selak was actually saved by an unknown person who pulled him to safety.
After thinking this might be his very first and last accident, His fate said otherwise.

The second tragedy Selak experienced was an airplane crash in 1963, exactly a year after the train disaster.
This accident happened to him when he was about to travel to Rijeka by plane. The flight was the first flight on the route from Zagreb to Rijeka. The accident occurred while the plane's cockpit door was open due to malfunction and caused the passenger to be thrown out of the plane. Not long after the incident, the plane unfortunately crashed.
It was reported that 19 people died in the accident while Selak himself survived the accident because he landed on a haystack when he was thrown out of the plane.

Selak's good fortune does not end there. Since the last airplane incident, he has been involved in a number of other incidents. Three years after his last accident, his 'bad karma' began to occur. His misfortune occurred in 1966 while he was traveling by bus. However, the bus he was traveling on skidded into a river, and it was reported that four people drowned and did not survive the fateful incident. But just like before, Selak survived the tragedy. This time, instead of waiting for the lifesaving crew to save him, He managed to save himself by swimming to the banks. But since it's Selak, he only suffered minor cuts and bruises.

His long rail of bad karma does not end there. Selak had another unfortunate incident in his life several years after his last bus accident in 1970. But it appears that death never follows him in the same mode of transportation because Selak's misfortune occurred in the car this time. Selak was driving his car on a sunny day in 1970 when it suddenly caught fire on a freeway. However, because it was Frane Selak, the luck returned to him just when he needed it the most. He was able to save his life and escape from his burning vehicle just before the fuel exploded and caused a massive fire.
Fortunately, Selak was able to exit his vehicle. If not for that, there is a good chance that he would not have survived this incident. As you wish it might be his last deadly accident, the fate said otherwise.

We had previously assumed that his bad luck never followed on the same mode of transportation. However, we believe that this time is an exception. Mr. Frano Selak was involved in another unfortunate incident three years after his car caught fire. Surprisingly, it was another car ride gone awry. In 1973, his vehicle also had a problem with the fuel pump. It is suspected that the fuel pump he was using at the time was damaged, causing flames to burst through the car's air vents. To make matters worse, the hot gasoline that burst into the air happened to land directly on Selak's skin. Selak, who was exposed to a high-powered flame, surprisingly suffered only the loss of his hair as a consequence of the incident, but he did not suffer any other injuries.
At this point, don't we all believe his guardian angels might overpower the bad luck?

Selak has had no more tragic events in the 22 years since the last one. His life had been going along normally and incident-free for close to 22 years at this point.
The bad karma, we believe, is probably tired and done with him, but unfortunately, the bad karma didn't stop there. After believing that 22 years of 'bad karma' had ended, he was unaware that another bad karma was on its way. In 1995, he was involved in his sixth set of unfortunate circumstances when the bus he was traveling in from Zagreb crashed. And again, as you have guessed, Selak survived the accident. He managed to rescue himself by jumping out through the window. To add to the sheer disbelief, just like a stunt in an action movie, Selak successfully escaped death once again with only small injuries.

Selak's next accident, which is also marked as his seventh unfortunate event happened a year after his last tragedy. This accident occurred while he was driving on the road in a mountainous area when suddenly a UN truck came towards him and hit his car. Frano Selak's car broke through the roadblock and plunged through a cliff 300 feet deep. Selak himself survived the incident by jumped out of his car, and then his body caught in a tree trunk that grew on the edge of the cliff.

That was the seventh and last incident that happened to Frane Selak. Surprisingly, God still sided with him.
At this point, we don't think of his luck as a coincidence, as on the next page something truly amazing happened to him after decades of bad luck.

After all the lucky-unlucky that happened to Selak, the Croatian media finally named him the Luckiest Person in the World in 2003. Won 800,000 Euros lottery and escaped seven accidents that should have taken his life is enough to name him it.
He used the money to buy a house, a boat and also remarried for the fifth time. Not only that, the remainder of his winnings were also generously shared with his friends and family. Selak also allegedly bought and gifted 25 cars and lent his lottery money to a large number of people, whom, sadly, the majority he never saw again. But, it didn't turn him bitter as he occasionally joked that he didn't have the mind of a businessman. And in 2010, Selak sold his belongings and lived simply with his five wives.
